Invisalign provides a more subtle straightening option than metal braces, but an improved appearance isn't the only benefit. Innovative Invisalign treatment, offered by your Philadelphia, PA, dentists, Drs. Steven Gilbert and Carlos Velez of Gilbert Dental Care, offers several important benefits.

Improvement of Bite Problems and Cosmetic Issues

Not so long ago, metal or ceramic braces were the only choices if you needed to correct a bite problem or didn't like the look of your crooked teeth. Although the braces were and are effective, they tend to draw unwanted attention to your smile.

The Invisalign system uses removable aligner trays worn over your upper and lower teeth. The trays are constructed of transparent plastic, making them practically invisible. The system is just as effective in correcting mild-to-moderate bite problems and most cosmetic issues as traditional braces. If your problem is complicated or severe, metal braces may be a better option.

Invisalign Offers Comfort and Convenience

Traditional braces can be a little uncomfortable at times. Loose wires poke your cheeks and gums, creating painful sores in your mouth. Adjustments needed to change the tension of brace wires may be necessary, but they're also a little uncomfortable.

"Adjustment" isn't a word you'll ever hear if you wear Invisalign aligner trays. The plastic trays exert constant, gentle pressure on your teeth and are replaced with new trays every two weeks. Every tray in the series is designed to accomplish a specific goal and is custom-created to address your orthodontic issue using Invisalign's CAD/CAM design process.

Oral hygiene becomes a time-consuming task when you wear metal or ceramic braces. Luckily, your usual oral hygiene routine doesn't change at all with Invisalign. Before you brush or floss, you'll remove the trays, then rinse and replace them when you're finished.

You also won't have to worry about food restrictions with Invisalign. In fact, you can continue to eat anything you want when you visit your favorite Philadelphia restaurant. Before the meal begins, you'll take out your aligners and put them in their case. Although you can drink water with the aligners in place, it's best to take them out if you plan to drink other beverages, as staining can be an issue.

Would you rather live with misaligned teeth than wear metal braces? In the past, metal and ceramic braces were the only choices if you invisalignweren't happy with your smile. Although the braces got the job done, they weren't necessarily the most comfortable or attractive option. Today, many people who swore they'd never wear traditional braces are happily straightening their teeth with clear Invisalign aligners. Center City Philadelphia, PA, dentist Dr. Steve Gilbert and Dr. Carlos Velez of Gilbert Dental Care are your dentists for Invisalign treatment.

What is Invisalign?

"Wires," "brackets" and "adjustments" are three words you'll never hear when you choose to straighten your smile with Invisalign. The system uses clear, removable aligner trays that resemble nightguards or sports mouthguards. The aligners place constant, gentle pressure on your teeth, which slowly improves their position. You'll receive an entire series of aligners at the beginning of your treatment and begin wearing a new set of aligners approximately every two weeks.

Invisalign aligner trays should be worn about 22 hours per day and must be removed when you eat, drink and brush your teeth. You can even leave the trays at home occasionally if you're planning to attend a special event or have a big game.

Invisalign is an excellent choice for both adults and children

Whether you're a teenager or your teenage years are long behind you, you can benefit from Invisalign treatment. It offers an effective way to correct crowding and spacing issues, mild to moderate bite problems and shifting that can occur with age. If you begin treatment as an adult, you may only need to wear Invisalign aligner trays for about a year. Teenagers generally follow the same schedule no matter what type of orthodontic treatment they choose.

Although no adjustments are required with Invisalign, you'll need to visit our Center City office occasionally for follow-up visits. For your convenience, we offer both before- and after-work appointments. We open at 7 a.m. on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday and are available until 6 p.m. on Monday and 7 p.m. on Tuesday.

Transform your smile with Invisalign! Call Center City Philadelphia, PA, dentist Drs. Steve Gilbert and Carlos Velez of Gilbert Dental Care at (215) 972-0406 to schedule your appointment.

From playing rough contact sports to avoiding awkward or embarrassing social situations, there are many reasons for people to avoid or invisalignput off getting traditional metal braces. However, you can straighten your teeth discreetly using Invisalign’s system of clear aligner trays from your Philadelphia, PA dentists at Gilbert Dental Care.

What is Invisalign?
Similar to traditional braces, Invisalign uses pressure placed onto the teeth to move them into their desired positions. Invisalign patients wear a series of comfortable, clear aligner trays in succession until treatment ends. The trays are switched for the next in the series every two weeks to slowly move the teeth. Small tooth-colored bumps called attachments affix to the teeth to pinpoint the tray’s pressure points and allow some teeth to move more or less than others.

What can Invisalign treat?
Invisalign treats many common orthodontic problems, such as:

  • crooked or misaligned teeth
  • overlapping teeth
  • overcrowding and undercrowding
  • gaps
  • overbite
  • underbite
  • crossbite
  • open bite

Invisalign is recommended for teenagers and adults. While Invisalign is suitable for most orthodontic cases, extremely crowded teeth or severe bite problems may need more aggressive treatment.

The Invisalign treatment
To begin treatment, your Philadephia dentist takes 3D molds of your mouth and sends it to Invisalign’s dental laboratory. There, a lab technician creates a video which shows the exact route that the teeth take on the way to their final positions. Once the video is approved by your dentist and you, work begins on designing and customizing your aligner trays. The lab sends your trays to your dentist, and your treatment begins.

Your Philadelphia dentist recommends you wear your aligner trays at least 22 hours a day. The extra two hours accommodate for time spent eating or brushing your teeth. You may remove the trays for these activities or special occasions like prom or a speaking engagement. However, your results depend directly on your commitment to wearing your aligners. Be sure to always remember to put your trays back on.

You've likely heard about Invisalign, the "invisible" alternative to traditional braces. These flexible plastic trays make wearing braces a discreet and comfortable process. Dr. Steven Gilbert and Dr. Carlos Velez of Gilbert Dental Care in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania haveInvisalign received extensive training in the Invisalign process and technology and look forward to sharing this amazing treatment with their patients. Here's how Invisalign works:

Evaluation

Your journey to straighter teeth begins with a consultation about Invisalign with your Philadelphia dentist. Dr. Gilbert or Dr. Velez will evaluate the alignment of your teeth to see if the Invisalign procedure is right for you. Teens and adults with moderate crookedness typically make the best candidates; children are better suited for traditional braces because of the malleability of their jaw bones and concern about them misplacing or not consistently wearing the aligners.

Designing

If you and your Philadelphia dentist have decided on Invisalign to straighten your teeth, several 3-D images and X-rays will be taken of your teeth and jaw. These pictures will be used to create a custom treatment plan and then sent to a laboratory that specializes in making correcting dental appliances. Your custom-fit Invisalign trays, or aligners, are on their way to being created!

Treatment

Soon you will receive your series of aligners. They will fit against your teeth snugly but comfortably, and since they are made of clear plastic, they will be barely noticeable while you're wearing them. For best results, your Philadelphia dentist advises wearing your Invisalign trays for 20-22 hours a day. This includes while you sleep. However, they should be removed for eating and drinking, as well as brushing and flossing. The trays should also be cleaned thoroughly at each brushing. The staff at Gilbert Dental Care will instruct you on the best way to keep the aligners clean.

The typical Invisalign regimen lasts between 9 and 15 months, but each patient is different. If straighter teeth are on your holiday wish list this year, don't wait any longer! Call Gilbert Dental Care in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania today for an evaluation!
